It’s Sunday again and I had so much fun participating in the Sneak Peek Sunday Mini Hop last week…I thought I’d do it again. This is where we post 6 paragraphs from a writing project, published or unpublished. Today I’m offering a sample of a book I’m working on tentatively titled Rumor Has It – A friends to lovers story that I’m really enjoying.
Raina – Party Planner
Liam – Fire House #9 Captain
Setting – Raina’s living room as she is propositioning Liam to help her with a very delicate problem she thinks she’s having.
If she left it up to him, this would just be a public service announcement. She wanted action. She needed answers, and she knew he was the guy to give her both.
What she couldn’t believe was the hot southern accent that came out of his mouth when he was telling her how explosive she was when she came. There was so much she didn’t know about him. He must have tucked that accent deep down. The husky voice she heard regularly was enough to do her in but add in a drawl, and she was ready for round two.
He had to notice her slight rocking movements when he was talking to her, but she could feel how much he was noticing now. At first it had been involuntary but when she noticed what she was doing she continued trying to get his attention. Like she’d been trying for a good few years but before this nothing seemed to work.
She couldn’t believe they’d gotten this far – his hands in her panties and his hot mouth on her breast. It was almost enough to make her come again. She wanted to know if she could come with another person during sex. This was almost like masturbation with exceptional masturbatory aids.
His attention was on her now. She didn’t know how long he would let himself be available like this. Every minute had to count. He was doing that thing he always did with his mouth, when he wasn’t sure what he was going to do next. The slow slide of his thumb along his bottom lip. That was always fun to watch…Mr. Decisive trying to work out a decision.
Deciding to give what he asked a try, she got off of his lap. Covered only by her white panties she did her best not to be self-conscious as she walked to the hallway. Hesitating for a quick second she took a deep breath and turned around to find Liam watching her. “Liam, come talk to me.”
I’d like to welcome Leela Lou Dahlin to my blog today. Take a moment to get to know her and get the treat of a wonderful excerpt from her newest book, A Haught Date.
Every time someone gives me carte blanche to talk about whatever I want I draw a blank. As I thought about what I wanted to write so many things came to my head. Should I be funny…inspiring…give a recipe? Then something happened…
While at the store I witnessed a group of guys joking around and one of them said to the other, “You’re not man enough…” I didn’t hear the rest of the sentence or know what they were talking about but I saw the flash of hurt on the young man’s face. I didn’t say anything and after that small snippet of dialog they went on their merry or not so merry way and I was…

He stopped and peered around. “Your room is cute. A big Cabbage Patch Kid fan, huh?”
“My mother left the room—pretty much—the way it was when I moved out for college, but she brought all my dolls from when I was a child back. I don’t stay here much.” What was it about this guy? She’d gone from feeling like her head was going to explode to laughing in a few minutes.
“Well, my whole family has seen you, and they think you’re my boyfriend, so I guess you get your way. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to be my loyal boyfriend. Do you think you can do that?” she asked, hoping she wasn’t giving too much away with her tone.
His eyes narrowed. “I happily accept this mission. Loyalty is something that goes with being a boyfriend, in my opinion, but I understand why you felt you had to include that in the description.”
His face was full of concern, but she didn’t want that look to turn to pity, so she just shrugged. He moved closer and reached his hand up to tuck her hair behind her ear. She could smell the spicy scent of his cologne, and it took her memory right back to the moment she was on her knees. Remembering the feel of the smooth head of his cock pushing between her lips and the sweet yet salty taste of his arousal on her tongue, she had to bite back a moan.
“I’m a great listener,” he said, his mouth so close she could feel his warm breath caressing her ear.
“I know you are.” Gemmi pulled back, amazed at how much she wanted to believe in him.
He studied her as if he was memorizing her face, then softly tugged her closer. His kiss was slow and lingering like he was trying to gather information out of her through her lips. The kiss grew in intensity. She grabbed his hair, holding him close and reveling in the way his lips tugged at hers and demanded more while still so gentle. “I think there’s more you haven’t told me. I’m happy to listen, if you want to tell me.”
She could only nod as he stroked her cheek with his thumb. He’d be an awesome interrogator.
“My cousin who slept with my boyfriend and started this whole fiasco is actually here today, along with everyone else who wants to meet my new boyfriend. It was just supposed to be True here tonight, but they all probably think they’re getting a bonus meeting you sooner than they thought they would.” She didn’t want to look at him, but she really had no choice. He was still holding her in his arms and stroking her back like a pampered pet. She loved being petted, but this whole situation was so far out of her norm she couldn’t enjoy it.
“Well, if they want to meet your boyfriend and you want them to get to know me, then let’s do it,” Camden said with a sweet smile. Gemmi could barely look away. This man was absolutely gorgeous and kind. An unbelievable combination. “I know people are speculating on what we’re doing,” Camden said, waggling his brows.
“You’re probably right.” She hoped her voice sounded stronger to his ears than it did to hers.
He put his hand on the small of her back and guided her out of the room, and the warmth from his fingertips spread throughout her body. She felt goose bumps from that little touch, which made her giddy as a schoolgirl on the last day of school. She wouldn’t have chosen Camden, but maybe she should get a little gift for True to thank her for her selection.
“Funny seeing you here,” a husky voice said as they left her room.
And just like that, Gemmi’s good mood disappeared, and her headache started a slow escalation again. She turned and saw her beautiful red-haired cousin she’d just spoke about leaning on the opposite wall, taking in the scene and clearly disapproving.
Did you like that? I hope so Gemmi and Camden have a sexy, funny story that I loved writing and hope you enjoy.

It’s Sunday and I’m participating in the Sneak Peek Sunday Mini Hop. This is where we post 6 paragraphs from a writing project, published or unpublished. Today I’m offering a sample of my debut novel that was just released April 15…A Haught Date – Haught Brothers – book 1
Gemmi Brooks was humiliated at the last family reunion when her boyfriend was found in bed with her cousin. With her self-esteem shaken, and to offset the pity party her family has been throwing in her honor, she invented the love of her life. Now the gig is up and she needs to find the boyfriend she’s told her family she’s been dating for the last 5 months.
Camden Haught, the sexy bachelor and bartender/owner of The Haught Spot, is always willing to help a woman in distress, so when the local heartthrob offers himself up to play the role as her boyfriend he can’t understand why she’s so resistant. As he tries to convince her he’s the right one for the position he finds himself wanting more.
Setup: Camden trying to figure out a few details about the woman he’s supposed to have known for the last 5 months and why he’s so drawn to her.
He lightly skimmed her neck, stopping at the slight swell above her bra. He looked at her, attempting to get the answers from her eyes. “Wanna tell me why?”
“I already told you.” She tried to reach out to him with her body, jutting her breasts out to get closer and wrapping her leg around him.
“You told me that you have a treacherous cousin who did you dirty, but you didn’t tell me that you’d been celibate ever since.” He allowed her hands to fall at her sides and took a step back to appraise her. She stood before him without cowering. He wanted her to know he liked her body.
“You’re so beautiful,” he said as he moved in to kiss her mouth. She tasted like his favorite everything. He nipped and sucked at her lips, tempting her tongue out to play with his. She was delicious, and as the cadence increased, he wanted more. He used his thumb to stroke the underside of her breast, and she moved his hand up to cup her more firmly as she whimpered into his mouth. He allowed her to settle his hand where she wanted it, but he wasn’t doing anything but making lazy circles.
“Please, Camden,” she said in a voice that quivered as much as her body.
He was so torn. Something about her screamed vulnerable, and he didn’t do vulnerable just like he didn’t do women with strings attached. Gemmi wasn’t just a single string; she was the full ball, and he wanted the whole damned thing. The look in her eyes made her appear gun-shy. She was ready, and he was troubled, but not because she stood against his wall trembling and moaning for relief. Overeager and demanding—that was what he would call his need to fulfill her, and that scared the shit out of him.
It’s almost been a week since my debut book A Haught Date released. There are a few things that I’ve noticed now that I’m published and real people are reading the words from my head.
*First – I never noticed the Amazon Bestseller Rating system that is available for every book sold by Amazon…until now. This new discovery makes me feel like a hungry hawk tracking its prey as I watch the numbers get smaller or….*gulp*…bigger.
*Second – the reviews I couldn’t wait to receive cause me to hold my breath until I get the gist of what the reviewer is trying to say. I’ve gotten three reviews so far and they’ve all be pretty positive. That doesn’t stop the – dun dun dun…that I hear when I see that I’ve gotten a new review. It’s exhilarating though so keep them coming.
*Third – listening to a few reviews and some comments tossed my way it seems there is a wide-spread thought that the next Haught to get their story told will be Alec, but…ummm….it’s going to be Beau’s story that comes out next. So I hope that is a build up for Alec as you will be getting to know him a little more during the next story. The honest truth is….don’t tell anyone, but Alec is my favorite. He’s smart, witty, sarcastic and damaged…you’ve got to love that. Here is what I picture him to look like –
All in all…it’s been a wonderful start to my career as an author and it’s made me work to get my second one cleaned up and ready for submission. Now that I know how this thing works (somewhat) I’m getting ready for the next time, but for now I hope everyone enjoys Gemmi and Camden’s story.
This day has been a long time coming….well…I guess in the scheme of things it hasn’t been that long. It was about 2 years ago that I got serious and announced to my mother, sister and brother-in-law that I was writing a book and I was going to attempt being published. I’ve learned a lot in these couple of years but it’s all been worth it.
I now have a lot of friends that are authors and they are some of the most helpful people I’ve ever encountered. Although we’ve never met each other I’ve never met anyone not ready to help you with a piece of advice or a helpful hint. Thank you to all of you wonderfully creative people.
Aaaannnnndddd here is A Haught Date a story that started in my head as I waited in a doctor’s office and heard the receptionist call out, “Mr. Haught…we’re ready for you.” Just like that my mind took off. What would it be like to have a name like Haught? What if you were a very attractive man with that name? It doesn’t take much to get my mind on a roll but by the time my name was called I had a kernel of a story, three Haught brothers and a list of titles. (After talking to my mother about this very recently I may have to find some cousins for these guys she came up with some great titles)
You can check out Camden Haught’s story he’s the youngest of the three and the first story that grew from that doctor’s office visit. Inspiration can come from so many places. I, for one, am glad about that. Click on the book cover or click here to order.
